Acorda Therapeutics Funds Social Activities at Ojakian Commons

Regan Development would like to thank Acorda Therapeutics on behalf of the residents of Ojakian Commons for the wonderful social activities they have funded through Ojakian Commons’ Lenny Beman Fund.  Acorda Therapeutics, a leader in research and drug therapies for people living with MS and other disorders, is located in Ardsley, NY.  Acorda’s mission is to develop therapies that restore function and improve the lives of people with neurological disorders.  They have made a generous $2,500 grant to help improve the lives of people living at Ojakian Commons, New England’s first accessible, affordable supportive rental housing for people living with cognitive and physical disabilities with services coordinated by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

The building opened in the Summer of 2015 and provides specially designed apartment living to increase independence for people living with disabilities, including 40 apartments for those with cognitive and physical disabilities, and 7 apartments for those with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.  The Lenny Beman Fund was named in memory of one of the first residents of Ojakian Commons and was created by the residents to enhance social interaction and provide community-wide activities for people living at the building. Specifically, the Acorda funds are being used for many exciting and interesting social activities for Ojakian Commons residents such as holiday the Masquerade Party pictured below.

Once again, we’d like to thank Acorda Therapeutics for their help in sustaining a vibrant social life for the residents of Ojakian Commons. With each chance to socialize, these planned group activities reduce isolation for people living lives with disabilities.  Acorda Therapeutics’ focus on improving the lives of people with disabilities — both medically and socially — shows a broad concern for fuller, richer living and we want them to know their efforts are greatly appreciated.
